FIRST MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT TO THE COMMUNITY

Dear members of the Academy faculty,

As we near the end of the 2013–17 strategic plan, we have begun to talk about our next strategic plan for Salem Academy and College.

The next strategic plan will span the years 2017–22, and as such it is an especially important one since 2022 also marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the institution. We have a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our past and to build inspired and inspiring plans for our future.

I am in the process of putting together a strategic planning committee and subcommittees for the Academy and College, respectively. Co-chairs for the committee are Lauren Rogers, Dean of Students at the Academy, and Janet Zehr, Associate Professor of English at the College. The committee will include three Academy faculty members, two of whom will be elected by the Academy faculty and one of whom I will appoint. I am asking Lisa Pence to work with you to implement a process to nominate and select two members of the full-time faculty as early as possible in the academic year. The first meeting of the strategic planning committee is expected to take place in November 2016.

Sincerely,

D. E. Lorraine Sterritt, PhD

President
